Portlethen Primary School is one of two primary schools in Portlethen, Aberdeenshire. ==History== The school dates back to the nineteenth century when Portlethen was a small fishing village. The first school building was what is now the Police Station. The school moved to the building more recently used as the Community Centre, which was built in 1860. The buildings were demolished in March/April 2007, after the centre moved to the new Portlethen Academy. The earliest entry in any log book in the school is from 16 January 1874, when both primary and secondary scholars were enrolled. An additional classroom was added in 1876. In 1962, a new primary block (the current building) was built, opening on 6 March. There were 103 pupils occupying rooms 1 to 3 and a room behind the hall, now the Nursery. In 1975 an extension was built to accommodate a rising roll (then 212) and a further extension was added in 1978. By this time secondary pupils were bussed to Mackie Academy until Portlethen Academy opened in 1987.
